Cake or death?
The joy of State holidays. Yesterday I had off--that means 3 day weekend for me. Something to do with America's birthday or crap like that. Lots of fireworks. And big money for the hot dog and burger makers.

New job going well, but one of the disadvantages of learning quickly is that you can find yourself bored doing the same task over and over again. So with one person out of the office last Thursday, I got to learn some new things. Several things I love about this office already, the first being no Bible-humpers who are all too ready to ram their God down my throat. Secondly, EVERYONE in that office has a phone on their desk, including me. And all of them have voicemail. So if any phone rings, it can be answered, or not. I am not required to run halfway across the office to answer a ringing phone or get yelled at by my boss for not doing her job. Already, I notice that the atmosphere is MUCH more relaxed. It's a smaller office, and my desk is bigger. Go me. So far, so good.

Also, it is official, we are going to be moving. We're moving into a 2-bedroom apartment just a few minutes away. It's nice. And big. And comparatively speaking, costs about as much as it does to live in my current apartment. We'll be moving August 1...and then immediately be heading to RenFaire. Go figure.

I spent Wednesday night at the bowling alley, staying for dollar night after league play because I had to figure out why I was in a slump these last few weeks. Think I've got it figured out.

So voting has ended on the theme for the next character battle contest, and after all votes were tallied, Silent Hill is going to be the next subject of the contest! Thanks to everyone who voted. Resident Evil came in 2nd, and Metal Gear Solid came in 3rd. Resident Evil and MGS will also be the subjects of the next couple of contests. I don't know in what order, but those will be the next themes after Silent Hill. With that said, look for info about the next contest after the Fantasy World Writer's Contest ends.

Nick, if you read this, let me know what you're doing tomorrow, call me at home: 518-374-0646. So far, my plans for tomorrow involve a day of D&D, so if you feel like stopping by, go ahead.

In 2 weeks, I'll be down in Rockland County again, but only briefly--I'll be heading to Yankee Stadium with April's brother, Ryan. I got him a ticket for a Yankee game (as he's never been to the Stadium) for his birthday, and it'll be for a July 19 game against the A's. So I'll be in Suffern or so that Friday. The end of this month is going to get busy, with packing, another concert at Tanglewood, moving, and the opening weekend of RenFaire. Oy vey. That's ok, though. I have to call up our new landlord-like object and ask if we can begin to move in a few days before August 1st, so we can get this crap into the apartment before heading down for RenFaire. Speaking of, WHO is going to opening weekend? I'm curious. April and I are, of course, but is anyone else?

Well, whatever the case, time for me to hop in the shower and get my day started.

Oh, and to you UK folk: better enjoy the last 2 days of sunshine you'll have until next year's Wimbledon. Get that last-minute tan you've been waiting for.

WHY HELLO WEEKEND! XD

I haven't looked forward to a weekend this much since, well, I knew that Heather would be coming down for 4 days. THIS IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN.

And, that is it! I slept in until 10:45 this morning! I actually have not down this in months and certainly never in Kingston. It was kind of delicious but I keep on looking at the clock and going OH NO MY MORNING! Oh well, I prefer gardening in the afternoon anyways. Too hot for me and the plants at any other time.

2 extremely brief movie reviews
Saw Wall-E last weekend and loved it. It was cute, but it was also the most mature movie Pixar's ever made, in my opinion. Loved the characters, loved the music, and loved the message. I need to remember to download Peter Gabriel's theme song from iTunes later.

Saw Hancock earlier tonight. It was all right. It was definitely funny, though some jokes that everyone else seemed to love rubbed me the wrong way. I thought that the first half of the movie was better than the second half - things got a little too melodramatic at the end. If I had to give it a grade, I'd say B-.

tiredness tired!
So like, even with two guys, I somehow ended up doing most of the heavy lifting.

Probably should back up a bit. Dad woke me and bro up at 6AM today to go back to our old house to do a bunch of yard work/landscaping, really. It suuucked for me because I sorta had insomnia yesterday and didn't manage to sleep until four-ish. So I was so very dead. Rest of the day wasn't much better.

Bunch of the old evergreens in the front yard died on us so we were going to replace them. But like, those things are so freaking expensive. Like this tiny foot tall one was like 69 bucks. We would have to have three of them and, more so, they would totally look out of place. So instead we bought a bunch of random flower shrubs. All three of them + stones + topsoil equaled a dinky 'green.

I love trees and flowers probably a bit more than the next person, but I not really into gardening. Like I'm always the girl in the cabin that has to deal with throwing bugs out of places while everyone else is screaming but I just...would like to stay away from them when I can. That and I just can't stand worms. I'm not really scared of them...it's just their segmented-ness is so off putting and gross. Neways, I dug one hole and removed one of the dead 'greens. Left the other two to bro and started trimming trees and stuff. I like using the looong blade saw thing. By some awesome luck I managed to have today, not one of the branches hit my head! @__@ Not that it happened before, but like, knowing me it seems a rather plausible happening.

Dad took over the branch sawing, leaving me to pick up said cut branches and throw them out in the back. While on my first run I saw this big doe and like for like a minute we just stared at each other. Was kinda funny. And then I took a step forward and invaded the sacred radius of tranquility of animals and the deer bolted.

...Dad cuts the branches waay too large. I was dragging stuff probably half my weight. Tis not too bad just chucking them kills arms. Though it was fun because I did a bunch of random throws from javelin style to judo! Haha. And when we're 3/4ths done with the trees in the backyard, bro finally finished his hole digging, urgh. He has a bright idea to change locations of the branch throwing and like, on my way there the first time I trip into this huuge rabbit hole or something. ~resists urges to quote Carroll~ The branches I was carrying scratched me up pretty bad. Didn't really bleed but pierced skin a bit and they're still all angry reddish pink. So my arms are so pretty right now! My new scratches go so well with my vertical scar on my wrist from the carpet cutting. Haha, the one that makes me seems like some loser cutter person who, um, completely fails (though it's probably for the best XP).

Anyway, this continues for a while. We finished around four-ish and had our lunch/dinner. Dad was nice and treated us to Red Lobster to my bro's overjoyed-ness. By that time, I was so very hungry. Seriously, had I known how long it was going to take, I so should've had a better breakfast than the lemon cake I baked yesterday. Got home around five thirty-ish, tried to take a nap but failed because mom has a habit of screaming in my ear during my nap taking. ~snorts~ And that's a good reason why I'm cranky much.

Oh yeah, started summer classes last Tues. Not much to say though three hours of math is waay too much for me to sit through. Oh, but I sorta got lost on my way back. It was like 10-ish and I missed the ramp for the highway. Was all like @__@ and figured I could just keep driving until I started recognizing roads. It was...fun. ~twitch~ Least I wasn't in Detroit ~shudders~

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to sleep and hopefully stop making a fool of 'self. Whoo!

Days of triumph & fail
'Lo livejournal,

Work-wise, today was a day of great triumph. We've finally nailed down my project (I hope!) after changing its design about 3 or 4 times. I also managed to convince Brian that it would be a good idea to go in the field in July (which it IS). I've been put in charge of getting accomodations/dealing with safety forms. I believe that my design approaches elegance because we might be able to answer 3+ questions with only four study sites. Trust me; that's awesome.

In general, life would be awesome except that I still haven't found my graduation ring. I can't quite put into words how much this BOTHERS me. If I'd been, say, out at a party perhaps I'd be able to accept the fact that it was Lost and Gone Forever ... except that, by all rights, logic, and reason it should be SOMEWHERE in my apartment. It's like a hangnail inside my head, I swear to god.

For my sanity, I'm putting together a list of possible locations that I have searched / need to search

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: I have all weekend to myself and so I can do a lot of hunting then. Also, I promised myself (and my garden) that I'd do some weeding and rescue some poor plant babies which look like they've been neglected for over five years. You have to admire the tenacity of plants because, despite it all, I still have tiger lillies, some unknown asters, and a climbing clemantis in my apartment's little garden. With a bit of work, it might even approach something akin to fabulous. Anything is better than letting the poor babies go to waste. At the moment, I really feel like I want to be helping something to grow, you know?

So, that's it. Writing about the ring thing has thrown me a bit so I think I'll make some tea and relax a bit before bed. Travel reservations and lab work tomorrow. I can't wait to head out to the woods. Or, at least, what approaches the woods in a touristy part of the Adirondacks. Still, there's something undeniably glorious about being out on a lake... I'm really not cut out to be a desk-biologist.. ;)

Busy
I had meetings all day yesterday, and today has been full of Work Things. Which is good! But it also means I'm brief here. Have a couple good discussions with people going on in other journals (controlling relationships and literary snobbishness, if you're curious). But I do have pictures!

+ A steampunk!Seifer necklace (it's not as strange as is sounds) for [info]irish_ais: Full Bad Closeup

+ And some of the lovely landscaping we've been doing around the house. Everything from the door picture to the lilies is new, picture-wise.

I'm also plugging away at my next Making Friends story (this is a pun, considering the one girl literally made Percival). I might actually have it done by the deadline! Depends on how my work schedule goes.

Computer woes?
'Lo livejournal,

I'm slowly trying to wiggle my way back into my normal routine. Summer's awesome because it's lovely and beautiful but it certainly does fuck with your ability to Get Shit Done. I kicked ass while working today (partially because I spent half the day at home. As sad as it is, sharing an office with 4 girls doesn't really help my productivity.) Now, I have a MOUNTAIN of house-work to do (and more ring hunting to do; it's really weighing on my mind. I feel like I have a mid-term coming up or something equally unpleasant).

Unfortunately, Se just gave me a terrible scare in that he wouldn't start up just a few minutes ago (though after a successful rebout, he's doing lovely). I've decided that tonight will officially be the Great Computer Clean Up. I'm going to do EVERYTHING I CAN POSSIBLY THINK OF to help my baby out since he's been running a little bit slow lately. I might pick the brains of certain people if they come onto AIM tonight (*cough* [info]venefica_aura*cough*).

I do like lists and need to make them more often. This one's for TONIGHT.

A list )

In other news, I think that I have something for [info]phoenixmonthly which I'm actually quite proud of... It's a ghost story, of sorts, and [info]drakonlily's already given me the proverbial thumbs up. Now for editing, mwahahaha.

That's it, I think. I'm hungry but unfortunately my kitchen looks like it could eat me. I'm a bit tempted to order in. Or at least to grab a beer
