So I know I need to post soon and talk about a ton of things but it looks like 2009 might be ending with stress, uncertainty, and general major downertude. 2009 started out alright for me, not nearly as bad as it did for others - but I feel like I've been catching up. Between the suck that was my classes this year and the current mess of fail I find myself in right now, you can probably expect some heavily locked, heavily personal entries to show up here in the future.

Awesome.

But! I'm not going to be too much of a downer right now. I am only ~2K away from finishing [info]getyourwordsout and I am going to get there.

I've also pledged for 2010. I am insane! But I have two writing goals for 2010:
  1. Finish Seifer Almasy and the Achy Breaky Badonkadonk for [personal profile] renay

  2. Work on Beacon for the rest of 2010, using fanfiction as a writer's-block-break.

I know I say it every year but for a lot of reasons, I am really hoping 2010 will be the year that Beacon starts to come together. ~200,000 words will hopefully get me there / get me started.

Also I don't have to work on Thursday and I find that pretty awesome. Yeah, being a vacation hoarder! (Yeah, having worked this entire year without the break I apparently really badly need.)

If I show up at Ohayocon and get so drunk I puke on your shoes, I apologize in advance. ♥

I am a mess. I'm so sorry.

Because I've finally had time to READ and play and shit! Yeah! Time off!

So let's start with YULETIDE that wonderful time of year I discover there are fics written for pretty much everything I can think of and a few I didn't!

Most important. THE STORY WRITTEN FOR ME.

Rope (which is a Hitchcock film if you didn't know)

Only As Creators Can We Destroy
I WAS SECRETLY HOPING THIS WOULD BE THE FANDOM. Because there is nothing quite like a movie based on a famous murder case (Leopold and Loeb) done by Hitchcock in an experimental non-editing style with canon gayness and the perils of Nietzsche philosophies! This was essentially exactly the kind of dissection I was hoping for and it was SO nice to get into Rupert's head, as I wanted so much more of him in that film. Cause yeah. You can also read this if you haven't seen the film because it's so well laid out and the whole murder thing is given in the first five minutes ANYWAY and yeah.

Go go now!

And other Yuletiders that are full of awesome and win:

recs for Boondock Saints, The Breakfast Club, Last Exile, Leverage, Lie to Me, Mad Men, Project Runway, Saving Face, and Spy Game )

And now other things!

Interactive Fiction

So I stayed up the night before my grades came out and did a lot of these! These were my favorites.

Photopia
Apparently some kind of classic IF that I had never run across. Really interesting and made me think a lot. Kind of an example in nonlinear story structure that is lovely.

Violet
This was so freaking cute, and even if I was sitting there trying to figure out the more puzzling aspects at least the hints were in fact useful and I didn't have to play find the verb much. It also lets you not be heteronormative, which was a feature that was strangely endearing to me, even if all it did was switch pronouns (but it's all about those pronouns, isn't it?).

Alabaster
A very interesting interpretation of Snow White, which ah, I admit to being mildly obsessed with. You're the Huntsman, and depending on your conversations with Ms. White and ah... others, you get lots of endings. I ended up with all the awesome ones completely by accident and then read the guide to find the less awesome ones. Really takes a lot of the symbolism to heart and the illustrations that change on the side were a really nice touch.

Flash Games

Every Day the Same Dream
Kind of an art game, but short enough you're not annoyed by its repetition. Brilliantly existential considering how simple it really is. Haunting too.

Boomshine
Just make chain reactions. This is apparently what my sister does when she's not doing homework.

Auditorium
Music, lights, and a nice learning curve. I'm currently still working through this one, but I love it.

'Lo livejournal,

Dear Self:

Yes, I know that Hetalia is very enticing and that it's much more exciting than transfer functions. I understand that you'd rather relax in the (winter) sun drinking (discount) Mexican beer than take notes on the environmental consequences of acid deposition. And that's fine.

Except that it's already Dec. 28. You remember that your defense is supposed to be on Jan. 26, right?

If you could just get back to the task at hand, I'd appreciate it.

Much love,

Self.

ps, Well, if you want to go grab a beer while you review the recovery literature, I'd be okay with that. After all, it's not like the Mexicans make good beer. ;)

Getting a Jump on the New Year

It's getting close to the end of the year again, and so I'm cleaning up my writing. My WIP folders are now neat and orderly and I have a few viable titles that I'm, as always, looking to finish in the New Year.

FURTHERMORE I have AO3 accounts now. The main account is here.

Below the cut are the works that have survived into next year. Cheer for them. I have also opened my requests back up and the link is here.

There have been some changes to the lineup )

Got back from Toronto today.

Was lots of fun. Bought a DS Lite there in a very nice combo pack. It has such a lovely metallic light green case. I have no idea what to name it right now but I'm leaning towards Vanille in the joyous spirit of FFXIII. Gah, they were playing the Japanese version at Pacific Mall and I was all like, "MAH EYES...oh well, I've already been spoiled silly for the entire thing." I have to say though, gawd, it's so glorious to see it in HD TV instead of on the laptop. It looks sooo, sooo good. And I'm loving Fang the more I see of her. She's awesome, Vanille is awesome--heck, the entire party is awesome...I can't wait!

Speaking of FFs, started replaying FFX (got bored of Dragon Age) today. I forgot how much I love this story. The characters are alright, but man--the story! I love it, the whole sphere symbolism thing and the world of the living ruled by the dead. If FFXIII's is half as good as this I'll be ecstatic.

Freezing cold outside but dad still wants to get home improvements done on the Rochester house so I'll probably be gone for the next two(?) days. Apparently some of the basement tiles need to be refixed (again) because of leakage so ~sigh~ Here we go again.

edit: Reading newest Claymore chapter--NO RIFUL, DAUF, NOOO! My favorite Abyssal couple, NOO! ~shakes fists at Priscilla~
